With the intention to cope with the latest trends, people accept any kind of brand that comes in vogue. The same goes for books. Children now-a-days are more aware of what is ‘in’ and what is ‘out’ with regards to fashion. In order to fulfill the requirements of the customers, publishers as well as the marketers become more concerned with designer brands and the latest fads to broaden horizons or to teach ‘worldly lessons’. Kimberly Wilder Wickham’s series of children’s story books include, “Angels and Horses”, “Summer of Magic Horses”, and “Angels, Horses, and Other Worldly Lessons”. These are children’s books that inspire inquisitiveness amongst the children and satisfy their urge to learn more.
Wickham’s books detail the adventures of a middle school girl named Tina, and her friends Chucky and Polly. Unlike the elderly people, children love fantasies and Wickham’s books basically focus on the challenging and exciting worlds of magic and quantum physics that express a refreshing feeling in the minds of the children. Rather than sitting in front of the television and craving the latest fashion, Wickham is of the opinion that children should be able to spend the most formative years of their lives productively by learning and living the challenging experiences that life might have to offer, thus being able to become confident of oneself. Wickham again suggests that people should learn to tackle any tough situation at a young age and that can be possible if they know how to apply imagination, intuition and logic to anything they do.
One principle on which Wickham focuses most in her stories is the "law of attraction”, an idea most famous for its popularization in “The Secret”. Wickham suggests that every child should be able to take control over his / her own life using these principles. Tina, the protagonist in Wickham’s stories, feels very lonely and afraid, and thus applies this law to make her feel confident enough to tackle some challenging situations of life. Quantum physics as a subject in school does not seem to interest students (if ever even offered), but the manner in which Wickham has introduced it in her books, children don’t even realize they are learning and enjoy reading them to the fullest. By portraying her characters with warmth, humor and understanding of the human nature, Wickham have made them come to life in the minds of the children. Moreover, Wickham’s love of horses brings a new dimension to her stories and encourages the children to love, learn from, and care for the animals. The magical friendship between Tina and her beloved horse, Dancer, gives a fine example of this special aspect.
Thus by defining the horse-child relationship, by combining wisdom and warmth with quantum physics to make it more interesting, and by making the children discover how they can gain confidence in life by learning experiences, Wickham’s series of popular children’s books is a perfect help for a child to find his or her right place in life.
