Friday the 13th Wedding

Having a child is probably the best thing that could ever happen to a married couple. Children are the fruits of love that swathe two individuals who, once in their lives, walked down the aisle and promised forever to each other. But what happens if one of your children has finally decided to embark another facet in his or her life in the form of marriage? Will it separate your paths or will it make your relationship even closer? One man learned to face the dilemma, and the setback, of having her favorite daughter get married. This book, peppered with emotions and nostalgia, is a recollection of a story you may have stumbled upon on the streets; better yet, a memory of a story that once visited your very own home.

Written by Ismael Tabalno (who created the fictional character of Pineapple Sam), "Bizarre Friday the 13th Wedding" tells the story of Joe, a father in his sixties who is residing in Washington State but originally from the fine island of Maui in Hawaii. Each page is penetrated by the dominating voice of Joe—a stark contrast to what his character feels on the inside. Joe is troubled about her daughter Dorothy's wedding. With other emotional baggages at the backseat, Joe attends his daughter's wedding in California despite the people and circumstances that make him uncomfortable. There, he faces an encounter with his ex-wife Linda who he thinks has been trying to brainwash the child after their separation. Add to this is the relationship between him and his soon-to-be son-in-law Vlad. His relationship with his daughter's fiancé fails to harmonize as well. Joe perceives that Vlad, who is from a Russian descent, exudes a boisterous vibe that is just too incompatible with what his daughter deserves of a man. Will these conflicts hinder the wedding? Or, will Joe manage to stomach these difficulties for the sake of his daughter's wedding?

This story reveals nine mini chapters—each of these evokes the feelings of a father who is being emotional at the thought of his youngest and most favorite daughter getting married. The story also unravels some bits and parcels of Joe's past which traverses to his memories of war, his familial relationship, and his thoughts on being a senior citizen in this day and age. If you are a father, you will definitely sympathize with Joe's character—forgiving, sensitive, and sometimes estranged. It also reveals the story that parents face once their children start to embark the life of being married. Each page is filled with sentiments, nostalgia, and love straight from the voice of a father. The readers are also sure to be transported into the story's beautiful settings in California,Hawaii, and Washington.

Ismael Tabalno, in his introduction, said that this story is somehow a depiction of some episodes in his life. Thus, you can really tell the authenticity of the voice behind Joe's character making you want to know and read more. "Friday the 13th Wedding" is a story in every household. It is a story in every family. Who knows? Maybe, this story is yours as well.
