The story begins at Southport pier in 1939, where the eighteen years old gorgeous looking girl -- Pretty Amy Curran is in love with Barney Patterson, a charming man and their romantic, passionate marriage was made in heaven, according to their belief.
From the day they married each other, their life was filled purely with love and care over each other. But their happy days were not lasting long, since Britain declared war on Germany and Barney immediately volunteered to fight, and the couple was eventually separated for five long years. As the days pass away, blowing out love in air, Amy is eagerly waiting for her husband’s return. But things suddenly started to change when Barney returned to Liverpool after VE Day. It seems he wasn't the same person when he left her.
It seems the couple lost their love due to some reasons. One day Amy was arrested for killing her beloved husband. By 1971 Amy has spent nearly twenty years in prison for Barney's murder. Now she is about to be released. At this point, many queries rise in readers’ mind like what happened to Amy’s little daughter, Pearl who was just five years old at the time her mother left? Can Amy find her little girl? What would be the reason for Amy to kill her beloved?
In short, Maureen Lee is a excellent story teller who will gently guide readers through every emotion known.
