Given the sensitive nature of Proposition 19, getting straight facts in the polls has been a struggle since inception. . A Field Poll released over the weekend would indicate that Proposition 19 is behind 49 percent to 42 percent but how those numbers will reflect in actual voting terms is still up in the air.

It's been shown that voters are reluctant in one on one situations to be forthcoming about favoring marijuana. For this reason, automated polls are producing numbers that show Proposition 19 ahead that are in disagreement with other numbers.
In a memo circulated Sunday by Dan Newman and Chris Lehane, the advisors for Proposition 19, they concentrated on this disparity and insisted that Prop 19 still has a chance of winning despite the way certain polls are framing the situation. In addition to this, they believe that polls might be failing to capture younger voters who are squarely in favor of the initiative.
Whether the polls are an accurate assessment of current sentiments toward Proposition 19 is a question that can only be answered tomorrow. What is obvious; however, is that whatever the exact numbers are this is a close fight that will rely heavily on voter turnout.
