Using MS TAG to attract Mobile Users
MS TAG & QR Codes have been out for a while, but we felt it would be good to review what these tags are, what they do, and how they could benefit your business!
What are MS TAG & QR Codes? Essentially, they are a kind of bar code encoded with information. With the use of your smartphone and appropriate application, you can simply take a picture of the barcode and it will "read" the information. Each type has its pluses/limitations, but can be generally used to send: URLs, Phone Call number, SMS Message, Text, etc.
How are they commonly used? These bar code stamps are commonly used to transmit a URL to your mobile browser. For example, you have an article on your website and someone is reading it via their PC, but needs to get up and go. If the reader wishes to continue reading, then they would need to email or write down the URL to their phone/mobile device. If the URL is long, or if it was pointing to a PDF, then most likely they'll abandon the idea.
But with the use of an MS TAG on your article, the user can take a picture of it and automatically be linked on their phone/mobile device. This makes it simple and "convenient" for the user to carry your information, articles or other noteworthy web-based items with them via their mobile devices.
Here is an example of an MS TAG. With your Microsoft TAG Reader application, take a snapshot:

The MS TAG should have taken you to www.MergeWare.com Now isn't that a great way to get your message out there to phone/mobile devices!
Just like that, you've created an interactive, easy way to transfer information to your users/readers!
What are ways I can use this? Aside from the previous example, you may wish to use them in the following ways:
- Mailer postcards to send your website link (remember, that a postcard will only be around for 30sec before it hits the trash bin)
- Your website to link readers to articles (facilitate ON THE GO readership)
- On building banners to promote your website / phone number
- Product items to link them to Coupons
As you can see, the options are limitless. With the ever growing number of phone/mobile devices and "On The Go" demographics, why wouldn't you take advantage of this technology!
