How Beth Caught Her Cheating Boyfriend And Finally Achieved Peace Of Mind

As a therapist and relationship counselor one of the most prevalent types of cases I always get in my office is infidelity cases where cheating is involved in some manner. This was her first and only boyfriend whom she lost her virginity too and I remember one thing that she was so proud was she was one of the few girls amongst all her friends who had a boyfriend who was so honest and so thoughtful. I remember I saw her once a week for about three months and then she just disappeared.

Two months later I received a letter from her. This is that letter:

Dear Dr. Sapperstein,

My name is Beth. I don't know if you remember me. I was a patient of yours a few months ago. I am the 25-year-old college student with the boyfriend I have been with for seven years? I am totally desperate and don't know what to do. If you remember when I last saw you my boyfriend and I were having a few problems nothing major though.

I think he is cheating on me. If this were the case I would totally be devastated. He is the only boyfriend I have ever had and he is the only man I can imagine being with. He is hardly home anymore. He leaves earlier in the morning and comes home later at night with the excuse that he is working a lot of overtime. Half the time when I call him on his cell phone he can't talk and says he will call me right back and he doesn't. A few times he even came home smelling like a woman's perfume. He said he was at an office party and a girl there he works with gave him a hug. Can you please call me so we can arrange a session, I am totally desperate and don't know what to do please help. please call me as soon as you can. Beth xxx-xxx-xxxx

When patients come to me they want advice about what they should do with their life. As a therapist I can't give them advice. In doing so if things don't work out as they hoped I could be held liable. Regarding the appointment Beth wanted to make with me as indicated in the letter above she ended up canceling and I never heard from her again until a month later when we scheduled another appointment.
