Ending Relationships: Breakup Survival Guide

This is your ending relationships breakup survival guide. So let’s make the first point right off the bat.

Breakups suck.

There’s no delicate way to put it. They absolutely suck.

Here’s the good news. The breakup of a relationship is not necessarily the end of the relationship.

Now, before you start making plans it’s important to know that you must follow a proper order of events in order to really make things work out well for you both. If you go in with both guns blazing you might do more harm than good.

Sit back. Grab a nice cup of coffee and prepare to take notes.

1)   A breakup is a good sign that something is rotten in the state of Denmark. Couples that are happy together do not breakup in normal circumstances. Ergo something is wrong in the relationship. If you want to make things better or get your ex back you’re going to have to identify the problem and then fix it before you can do anything else.

2)   Sometimes a breakup is the best thing a couple can do. Oddly enough this is true. No one really wants to hear this but breaking up can make you both appreciate what you had together and what you could, would, should do to make things right or better in the future (whether you do them with the same person in the future or someone completely new).

3)   Time heals many things. Learning to take one day at a time (the good along with the bad) will greatly aid the healing process. I know you want the pain to go away now but the pain is a sign of the love you had and a symptom of the loss. Over time, the pain will fade and you’ll be able to move on with your life.

At the end of relationships, breakup survival isn’t one defining act or deed. It’s a process that takes time. You’ll spend a good deal of time forcing yourself to go through the motions of living for a while and then one day you’ll notice you’re not having to force yourself anymore. That moment is when things really do start to get better. The most important thing about breakup survival is to have hope and never give up on that.
