That is why it is not recommended that you profess your undying love as that can make the situation worse. You want to let your ex knows that you can still lead a meaningful life without him or her.
This takes the pressure off your ex and will not result in too much resistance. Whatever it is, it is important to remember not to exhibit any behavior of desperation and neediness.
