Breaking up with someone can be a devastating and emotional time. You can go through a variety of emotions, feeling everything from pain, rejection, sadness, and even anger when a relationship has ended. While there are many different ways to overcome a break up and heal a broken heart, music remains one of the most popular choices to this day.

Music has been around for centuries, but it hasn't been until the last several decades that research has been conducted on the healing properties of listening to different sounds and rhythms. Music therapy has been used for a variety of conditions, such as pain management, depression, improving wellness, and physical rehabilitation. It is linked with helping people cope with stress and deal with problems. It is no surprise then when we find ourselves needing to work out some strong emotions or go through a difficult time that many of us turn to listening to some of our favorite songs.

Different types of music can have an effect on our overall mood. Songs with an upbeat tempo can often cause us to feel more positively. Songs that are relaxing or calming in nature can help us feel more at ease or accepting of a situation. When you are breaking up with someone, there are often so many different emotions all at once - and listening to a certain type of music can help you sort through all of these.

When getting over the ending of a relationship, it is important that you give yourself time to experience and deal with all of your feelings. Taking time to heal is vital in order to get back to normal and to allow yourself to love again. Everyone reacts to a break up differently, but for many taking a few days of reflection and exploring exactly what you feel can greatly help in reducing the overall time of mending a broken heart. Instead of bottling up feelings that can last for years, you can express those feelings much easier and get over them if you give yourself an ample amount of time.

Some may choose different types of music to help them get over a relationship faster. There are songs that can evoke a certain emotion through their beat and tempo, such as heavy metal music helping get through extreme anger. Other songs may have lyrics with special meanings that help convey the feelings you are going through and help remind you that you are not alone. Some songs are funny that can give you a humorous outlook on the situation. Other songs with an upbeat mood and tempo may help you with starting to think positively again.

Learning more about music and its role in healing helps us to understand why we love break up songs so much and why we turn to them anytime we have problems with relationships and dating. You shouldn't feel ashamed or embarrassed about listening to songs that help you feel better after going through hard times and within a few days or weeks you will likely find yourself feeling much better. If however signs of depression begin to emerge after a few weeks and music is making you feel worse instead of better, you may want to consider speaking to a professional about your feelings and concerns.
