Being Unique, One of the Keys to Win Competition

Competition in business as well as among the people involved is getting tighter and harder each day. Profit gaining today is much harder than in the past.

There was time when motor or car dealers didn't offer much discount and still consumers kept coming. But it can't be true today. One of the reasons is that supply exceeds demand. Accordingly consumers today look for dealer that offers the biggest discount.

Also in the past there were not too many hotels around and their services were not as good as they are now. People then didn't have much choice, so only hotel would do. But today hotels are mushrooming with their stars standard services. Consumers have a lot to choose from.

You can find more examples of how much different things were compared to they are today. So, is there something you can do to come out as a winner in this much tighter competitive era?

In a large book-store you'll find so many books about lots of subjects. It is very unlikely you would care to look closely at them one by one. But then you decide to pick up one and open it. What make you choose that one particular book out of so many? As most people are, you are sub-consciously attracted at the first place by the book cover that has eye-catching title and design. That is what you call : uniqueness!

There's a book about uniqueness entitled "Blue Ocean". It advises you to always try to create something uncommon and newly different while avoiding the so-called "red zone" or whatever people in general commonly do or make. If you stubbornly stay in the red zone, it will take a very great effort to hold your stand there. As in the case of motor or car dealers, if they determine to count on greater discount offers for more sale, while most dealers naturally do the same, they all will eventually loose the greater part of their profits.

One uniqueness motor or car dealers may try to exploit is by sponsoring the founding of communities of fanatical motor or car lovers. Usually their members won't object much to the prices of their favourite types.

As for hotels, almost all of them have relatively the same service standard. But why do some of them enjoy high occupancy while the others don't? You can be sure, that some uniqueness are responsible here, whether it is improved or modified service styles, comfortable atmosphere, interiors, and other facilities.

The some goes for other business field and any businessman's behaviour. Any company or entrepreneur able to create differences that have advantage over their competitors, may expect to come out as a winner. As Loretta Lyn once said : "you have to be first, different or great. If you're one of them, you may make it."
