In Ohio, the Secretay of State form for a Name Registration (form 534), aka DBA, has a place to check EITHER Trade Name or Fictitious Name. What's the difference? The descriptions on the form (http://www.sos.state.oh.us/SOS/Upload/business/forms/534.pdf) and in the ORC are very similar. A Trade Name seems to be able to be "post dated", i.e. the date of first use can be before you file the form. They say a Fictitious Name can be used if you don't want to register a Trade Name or the Trade Name isn't available for registration. Assuming the Trade Name is available, why would I choose one over the other (note: I have an S-Corp)?
Also, for the Corporate Name I needed to add Inc., Corp., etc to the name I filed. Does the Trade or Fictitious name need the same? Do I need to file "Bob's Batteries, Co.", or can I just file "Bob's Batteries"?
