Buying Tips For Pallet Trucks

If you‘re starting out in business and need to move goods from one place to another then you may benefit from a pallet truck.  If you've never bought one before then you could find buying a new pallet truck a nightmare?  There are a few things to consider before buying your truck.

1. Gather information. Acquire all the data you need to make an informed decision.  The internet or your local suppliers are both good sources of information.

2. Does it do the job?  Make sure the pallet truck is fit for purpose.  Before you buy, physically make a list of the characteristics your pallet truck must have and use a checklist to compare each manufacturer and model.  Talk to people who specialise in your field and then you'll get an idea of which make and models to look at.

3. Find a reputable supplier. Make sure the company you ultimately buy from is reputable and sells genuine pallet trucks and parts.  Will they provide you with the back up service you'll need?  How long is the warranty?  What is covered by the warranty?

4. New or used? Consider buying a used pallet truck if your budget is restrictive.

If you're considering buying a used pallet truck, then make sure everything is in working order.  Check for signs of damage and thoroughly test the pallet truck before you buy. Ask the seller to give you a demonstration on how it works and test the pallet truck personally by moving and lifting goods.

-How does it feel?
- Are the wheels flowing freely?
- Are there undue signs of wear and tear to the forks?
- Is it easy to operate?
Are you confident your employees will find it easy to use safely?

Get your mechanic to check it over and maybe even write a specification report. If you think this is going too far then just have the mechanic look it over and give you a verbal report. Until you are satisfied that it's in good working order then you're not in a position to make a decision to buy or not.
