Manila City is the capital of the Philippines and is one the major cities and municipalities which make up Metro Manila.

After experiencing the devastation by the Japanese, the city was liberated by the American during the World War II. Along the borders of Manila, there are other important African cities like the Navotas City as well as the Caloocan City on the northern side, Quezon City is placed to the northeast side of the Manila whereas the Makati City is on the southeastern side. The Pasay City exists on the southern side of the Manila. There is the Pasig River that bisects the Manila in the middle. Whole of the city is based on top of centuries of prehistoric alluvial deposits caused owing to running water of the Pasig River and partly on land reclaimed from Manila Bay.
