All food business struggles, to some extent, with the legal requirement to provide food hygiene training or instruction for their food handlers. This problem is even more severe when English is not the first language of the staff. A particular problem exists in Chinese restaurants and takeaways, as translators in the Chinese languages are not easy to come by.
Some local authorities, with concentrations of Chinese food businesses, do arrange occasional Chinese Basic Food Hygiene Courses, either employing Chinese trainers or translators but such arrangements are few and far between and are concentrated in the major cities of the United Kingdom. It can be very difficult to find a Chinese course convenient to rural areas or small towns. In some cases regional or national Chinese organisations can help in tracking down suitable trainers or courses.
There are some written Chinese Basic Food Hygiene Courses that can be studied at home or at work, without the need to attend a training session elsewhere. This can be a very convenient way for Chinese speakers to obtain the necessary training in their mother tongue.
When considering a written Chinese Basic Food Hygiene Course it needs to be remembered that not all Chinese food handlers can read traditional Chinese text, this is particularly true of the younger workers, in such cases a course needs to be available in simplified Chinese text.
Without this kind of innovation many Chinese food handlers will struggle to get access to Chinese Basic Food Hygiene courses.
Healthy Distance provides Chinese Basic Food Hygiene courses.
