Dance with My Son
Busy. That's how people throw their description of me. My son catches the aftermath of those words. With my better half helping me through the thoughts she left behind, I solely raise my 6-year-old boy.
Since he loves to go strolling with me at the park, I bought him a set of residential playground equipment just to make up for the missed times.
However, my job is eating me alive. Sadly, my time for my son equals to an empty stomach. I don't know why I act like those you see in the movies. I leave the house before he yawns and arrive just when he said his prayers. My conscience is creeping on me.
Of course, I play with him every Sunday with the playground equipment I just bought for him. He told me that some swing set accessories should complete the set so I bought some swing set equipment. But without playmates, my boy can only sit at the other end of the seesaw expecting nothing.
Saturday is my rest day. I work hard to provide him the best life can give. Then again, I know I am the best life can give him. No playground equipment can replace a parent's embrace.
One night, I dreamt of a dark unicorn. On it is my son. I went up to him to get him away from the unicorn. I did not want him to fall. When I held his body, he retaliated against my hands. I remember what he exactly said, "Don't Dad! I have a playmate now."
I woke up soaked in sweat. My eyes perspired as well. I feared what tomorrow may bring. One day might come when he doesn't want to be with me anymore, I said to myself. Maybe he's used to an older guy coming in and out of a house where he stays in. I knew I had to do something.
Next morning, I resigned at my job. I went to his school to take him home. He was surprised that his dad was there. He wondered why I was there when the PTA meeting was last week and I missed it.
I told him it will always be that way from then on. I saw the questions unasked. I offered an ice cream afternoon session with him. He gave me the smile I seemed almost forgot because of the previous job. I smiled back. He told me that he missed me. My throat had trouble swallowing.
That was the beginning of my fatherhood to my son.
To date, we use the playground accessories every afternoon unless it's his exam week or he has a math competition reviews.
By the way, I work now at the school where my boy studies as an administrator for Human Resources.
