Defining Role Of Managers And Supervisors In Change Management Program

Change Management is a frequently heard phrase in corporations and organizations that would like to bring about a significant improvement in operations as well as business processes. Effective implementation of change management can help companies especially during a bad time. Effective strategies have helped troubled business on long-term recovery. These companies which went to change management have also become winners.

Change management may include both business strategies as well as cultural change. Change management comprises many aspects such as defining and instilling new values, attitudes, norms, behavior pattern within the organization.

The organizations should initiate change management programs gradually with an objective to support new ways of doing work and at the same time minimizing or overcoming resistance to such a change.  Change management also helps in building consensus among customers and stakeholders if they are convinced or made to understand that these particular changes are designed to benefit them too.

An effective change management model ensures that the end objective is achieved with proper planning, testing and implementation.  When a company is undergoing or planning to undergo change management process, some resistances are bound to surface. This should be considered normal. Proper strategies and timely planning need to put in place to get things in order.

The organizations planning to implement change management should get their managers and supervisors to think and talk in favor of the process of change management. The first thing for the management to realize is, that effective implementation of change management will not be possible unless the  managers and supervisors buy in  the rationale for the change.  They need to support as well as are involved in the process of setting up change management processes.

The organizations in favor of change management also should support its supervisors and managers.. The manager or supervisor need to be made aware of the need for change; Desire has to be inculcated in them to participate and support the change management program; Knowledge has to be transferred regarding the process of change; should develop an ability to be able to implement such skills and lastly; being able to successfully reinforce it to sustain the change.

Managers and supervisors are important medium of communication, as far as the personal impact of a change is concerned. The change management project teams and change management leaders should ideally provide managers and supervisors with all the necessary information that  they may need to communicate effectively.

Managers and supervisors play a key role in the group coaching and individual coaching sessions. They also have an important role to play when it comes to identifying and managing resistance to change. Studies showed that direct supervisors are  the best sources  to sustain and reinforce a change. Thus, organizations that are planning to implement change management programs need to improve the overall performance, reputation, branding and profitability  must seriously take the roles played by their  supervisors and managers.
