The credit crunch is a worldwide phenomenon that has affected real estate sales in nearly every market and around the world. Steel frames are currently used mainly for security or detention windows, but replacement residential windows may be framed with wood, thermal-break aluminum or most commonly with PVC. Modern wool-pile weather stripping with Mylar fins have made windows and doors much less prone to air infiltration around the doors or sashes, so any framing material will be energy efficient. The homeowner's choice can then be made on price and aesthetics, rather than which is the most energy efficient.
