Are you ready to plunk down your hard earned money to get a home theater system for your home? Are you ready to get away from the frustration of cell phones, noisy popcorn eaters, or people who just won't be quiet while you're trying to watch the movie at the theater? Let's look at what you need to do before you make that big investment for your home.
Take measurement in the room where your home theater system will be installed. Make sure that there is enough space to fit the screen and other components you will need. You should take into account the extra speakers (at least three). Even if the extra speakers aren't installed right away, you still need to account for that space for a future installment. If you are also installing furniture, such a shelves or cabinets, you must take measurements for that also.
If possible, choose a big screen. When choosing a size, the best way to do it is to measure the screen size diagonally. Whatever the size is, it should be half of the distance of your seating and no more. A high-definition television with a wide screen is the best choice for your home theater system. If your budget won't allow it right now or if the room or area is small, you can substitute something smaller until you can make that transition. In order to get the best quality in the picture, you should have HDMI or component video inputs. The television should have composite-video and S-video inputs to use for VCRs. Using A/V inputs for a camcorder hookup is good, as long as they're on the front or side of the television. The remote is a very important part of this setup. You wouldn't want to have one and not know what the buttons are used for.
The digital age is here, and you will eventually have to make the adjustment from analog. You'll have to get that DVD or high-definition television. Either or these will help using the Dolby Digital format. Dolby Digital decoding should be included in the receiver you purchase. Or, you can also use Dolby Pro Logic.
When it comes to the DVD player, a multiple disc compartment is better. You can have several discs in the DVD player at one time. This way, you don't have to move from your comfortable spot to change them out. When you install the speakers, the main ones you must install are the left, middle and right speakers. If you're on a budget, the other speakers and subwoofer can be installed at another time. If you do get a subwoofer with the other speakers, get a unit with plenty of bass sound. Test out the speakers and listen for a quality sound. Just looking at the information can't help you as to whether or not these are for you. Test them out with some of your own music and movie discs. You'll be able to tell what kind of sound you're hearing if you listen to familiar stuff.
One of the most important things you should do prior to purchasing a home theater system is to make sure the store has a reputable policy where you can return the unit if it doesn't work right in your home. You want a system that is reliable and where you can get much enjoyment from it.
