Choosing a network marketing company is a very important decision, one that can easily be made without the right information to guide you toward a successful outcome. I got involved in network marketing in 2002 after reading a book that discussed various ways to make multiple income streams. The author talked about MLM in the book and of course gave his recommendation of the best company to affiliate with.
I put a lot of my resources into developing that business, believing in the vision of the company and the promise of the MLM industry. My excitement was pretty much gone after a couple of months, as I realized I was doing things most of the day that I really did not like at all, such as calling cold leads and telling everyone I knew about my MLM opportunity.
This experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I completely let go of network marketing for a few years after that. Since then, I have grown a lot. I now understand how the industry works and how to market an MLM opportunity the right way. It makes sense why my previous efforts failed.
Network marketing is a fantastic industry to be a part of, but only if you have the right ingredients in place. Let's cover a couple of these:
1. By far, the most crtical aspect of your choice to affiliate with a company is the degree to which you will be effectively trained in marketing. You want to know why the vast majority of of home-based business owners throw in the towel? Usually it's not that the company or product they are promoting is lame.
It's just that they never learned how to market effectively.
You have to keep in mind that most upline leaders will tell you to make a list of everyone you know, join leads groups, and buy leads. These are the conventionalways of building a business. Don't misunderstand me--you can succeed using this approach, but most of the entrepreneurs I know (myself included) have discovered this to be a very stressul and ineffective approach to business development.
What is crucial is that you find a leader who can show you attraction marketing, which is based on the concept that you want to attract qualified prospects to you instead of chasing them. You do this by positioning yourself as an expert who can help others.
If your company will teach you attraction marketing, then you stand a good chance of success.
2. The quality of the product or service you are promoting: Are you sure you have researched the product you will be endorsing? Have you done any objective research on how it stacks up against the competition? For certain the person trying to bring you into the biz opp will tell you plenty of reasons why their product is the top of the top. Let me ask you, have you come across objective reviews from people not in the company? Are you feeling a personal connection with the company and their products?
(I am shocked by the number of home-based business owners who confess that they have no passion for the product they are trying to endorse!)
3. The reputation of the company-- How long has the company been in existence for? Have you done any online research to see what others are saying about the company? Why they left? Does the company generally enjoy good press or are you finding some negative stories circulating?
4. Compensation plan-- You will come across all kinds of different compensation plans out there, with each company claiming that theirs is the best way to build financial freedom. Is it clear to you how you will earn money, how long it will take, and what you'll have to do to get it?
If you can honestly say that all of these factors are positive, you should enjoy some real potential to succeed in the network marketing industry. Just be careful! I don't have to tell you that the MLM industry is full of people doing it the 'old school' way who will try their best to persuade you to join their opportunity.. Let me assure you, any MLM out there can lead to failure. But if you learn how to market, you can definitely enjoy a high level of success. Good luck!
