When a retail store cuts jobs, it doesn't affect anyone except the store. When they close down, it affects the employees and the customers. When a business cuts back, again it only affects the company itself. However, what happens when the Defense Department starts cutting jobs? Is the country going to be safe? How many cutbacks are too many and will they still be able to protect us?

Everyone knows that the U.S. Department of Defense is one of the biggest and best in the world. Many would argue that it probably is a bit of overkill, but no one really knows for sure. The Pentagon is preparing to cut weapons spending which will put many big-name defense contractors out of a job. Of course, they probably already have enough weapons to take on the world, but without knowing for sure can you really trust that the country is safe? It is highly unlikely that the country will ever be in imminent danger, but it's a little frightening to even have to question. With all of the job cuts going on in the world, this is one of the most serious ones that have happened yet.

The country almost lost its banks, it has lost a lot of great companies, and now it's cutting back its Defense purchases. Whoever thought that this wasn't a serious issue needs to think again. Some people tried to brush the recession under the rug or say that it wasn't a serious issue. However, it's not just small-town Americans losing jobs. The country is being faced with some serious issues that will surely make people realize the significance of the recession that is going on. There isn't any imminent effect on U.S. security or protection due to the cuts by the Department of Defense, but it is surely going to cost some more people their jobs at some point.

It's troubling when you live in a world where so much loss is going on and everyone has to scale back so much. However, it's even more unsettling when the answer to the problem includes cutting the spending of the government and the departments that take care of the U.S. Fortunately, the United States has done a lot to beef up their departments and have probably much more personnel and spending than they could ever need. Therefore, there might be room for cutting costs here, after all. Either way, it's still disheartening to see things like this going on in a country that was once thought to be one of the great powers of the world.
