IPS Involved with Gulf Oil Spill Cleanup Efforts

Posted: Jul 19, 2010 |

Ever since the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion in April, several thousands of gallons of oil have spewed into the Gulf of Mexico creating one of the worst natural disasters in American history. The oil spill is threatening the Gulf's wildlife, both in the water and on the beaches, as well as energy and the economy, especially those who depend upon clean beaches for their livelihood. Already tar balls have been reported coming onshore along beaches in Gulf States, including Texas. Beach cleanup efforts are already in motion, helping to stave off the impact that most people are dreading. Integrated Protection Systems (IPS) is hard at work doing their part in the oil spill cleanup effort. They are installing HESCO Concertainer® Units and adding Enviro-Amour™  that will encapsulate the oil and transform it into a floating solid so it can be easily removed. Then it can be used as a raw material such as plastic, rubber, fuel or asphalt. This makes beach cleanup a lot easier.

The HESCO units are deployed for use against hurricanes and floods, but are effective for beach cleanup efforts as well. They can be installed quickly, usually within 20 minutes. Also, it takes only two people to complete the job. If you were to use 1,500 sandbags it would take about seven hours and 10 people to do the same job. Time is an important factor with the BP oil spill because oil is already washing up onshore on some of the beaches and the white beach sand is turning into a disgusting, black, oily muck.  The faster these units can be installed, the better it will be for beach cleanup. The units have already been installed in Dauphin Island, AL and are successfully combating the oil spill there.

Enviro-Amour™ solidifies the oil into a reusable raw material. It is a blend of proprietary USDA food grade polymers that are:

·    Non-toxic
·    Non-corrosive
·    Non-carcinogenic
·    Non-hazardous

It is listed as a solidifier on the Environmental Protection Agency's National Contingency Plan product Schedule as such and can be used on oil spills in navigable waters in the United States. The agent will solidify any hydrocarbon spill into a floating solid that can be disposed of easily and then recycled. Any oil that washes up can be removed with ease during a beach cleanup.

The HESCO® units are effective tools in oil spill clean up efforts.  IPS can install them at any beach along the Gulf Coast with our preferred installers, Sterling Building Specialist. Whenever a flood occurs, one of the first lines of defense is usually flood sandbags. Images of lines of people handing flood sandbags to each other are normally seen on television and in newspapers whenever floodwaters threaten a particular area. Sand is heavy and is able to withstand the pressure tons of water can put on them, so it makes them an effective choice to combat flood situations. They do tend to leak because rushing water can be an unstoppable force at times, so keeping a close eye

Many weapons are being brought out to help clean up the mess left behind by the BP oil spill. Beaches are becoming saturated with oil and businesses are reporting that this is the worst year they have experienced. However, there are some things that have proven to work against oil spills and they are being utilized to help keep the beaches clean. Absorbent booms are usually a common sight to see in the waters where the oil slicks are located. Such is the case with the recent BP oil spill, which resulted from an explosion at the company's Deepwater Horizon oil rig in April. Eleven people were killed and since then thousands of gallons of oil have been discharged in the Gulf of Mexico. Recently, a cap was placed on the well, but the oil slicks still propose a danger to the beaches along the Gulf. Absorbent booms are proven weapons against

As the BP oil spill threatens the beaches situated along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, oil spill clean up methods are being introduced that are designed to keep the beaches, and the wildlife, from being overtaken by the oil slicks. Some people like actor Kevin Costner are coming up with ways to help protect the waters and the beaches from being ruined by the disaster, which began in April when BP's Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded and 11 people were killed. There is definitely a search engine war going on and Google is making changes that are giving their users more control over how they surf the web. One of the main focuses of Google at the moment is to raise the bar on the quality of sites it shows to users. Recently they unleashed the Farmers Algorithm (which we wrote about a couple of weeks ago), but Google now has gone even further giving its users the power to block sites they don't want to see. What are the ramifications of this new resou

It's official! While there has been talk of an upcoming algorithm change from Google for at least a couple of months, these past couple of weeks saw a definite change in the way that Google ranks those sites on the web vying for top placement in its listings. So what is the big news? This algorithm specifically went after content farms and in addition to a broad extent low quality sites that have been gaming the system for higher rankings. Since the algorithm targeted content farmers, this a

Content is a driving force in attracting the attention of the major search engines and keeping visitors on your site, satisfied with the information you provide them and a lure for them to keep coming back. With so much content creation on the web, it can sometimes be difficult for Google to figure out just who created the content and if it is the original source.
