Jet mixing is an industrial method that not many people out there know of. This article about jet grouting equipment is a handy reference. The author of this article seems to know a lot about jet grouting equipment.
Jet grouting, also occasionally referred to as jet mixing, is an industrial method of grouting which uses high pressure techniques to mix, replace, erode and cement soils. Jet Grouting involves using a large drill with directional nozzles to drill into the soil and mix in the grouting. After the mixture sets, this creates a solid horizontal column. These columns can have a diameter of between two and six feet.
Jet Grouting – From Basic to Specialized Methods
The most common method of jet grouting uses air and water in high pressures, though other techniques working with the high pressure steam can be employed. The process required drilling to a planned depth as required, and inserting a powerful pump connected to the drill rod. This pumps the high pressure grout into the soil through the drill, which is then rotated in reverse to remove it from the ground and create the columns.
Jet grouting can be used to many ends; including to stabilize contaminated soils, to create groundwater barriers and even to underpin distressed foundations on unstable buildings. Jet grouting is also used to establish a solid base for construction machinery to sit on during construction projects.
Whilst basic jet grouting is the most often used technique, some of the more specialized companies are perfectly able to use different mixes and use these for a variety of projects. Many of the techniques now used can work with double or triple fluid grouting techniques, and the mixes of these will be tailored to suit individual requirements. There will need to be a process of study into the soil types of course, to ensure both stability and effectiveness is reached. However, many jet grouting companies are perfectly prepared to deliver this service.
Jet Grouting Keeps Makings Technological Advances
With technology advancing all the time, higher pressure jet grouting equipment is coming online all the time, whilst diameters of columns, greater production, and faster turnaround in delivery are leading to reduced costs in the construction process. This is good news, because as construction projects are increasing in size and breadth, construction techniques need to keep up with the demands.
