Online career - How you can succeed in Online Internet Business - And why you failed before!

Everybody wants to tell you how to make a living online? You feel you are tired of all these quick methods presented to you with false hopes of quick return to become the next millionaire?

I have certainly become tired of these next to nothing worth advices about how I can create my fortune by only signing up to a almost automatic system, requiring next to nothing of efforts to bring you in the money you seek.

My name is Stig-Arne Kristoffersen and I hope I can contribute to a turning point in your search for your online career, if that is what you want to do.

There are many people out there promising to reveal how to build an Internet empire and promise you riches beyond your belief.

How many times have you not been disappointed and see no result from their solutions? I bet you there are many times.

I will tell you why this happened, because there are no secrets on how to build a successful online business.

Yes, and so what, you will tell me. What does it take to create a successful online business then?

First, you need to stop treating your idea as a hobby or just a past time activity. You need to start to realize that in order to make money online, you need to behave like a regular business owner.

You need to watch trends and learn how other successful business people are doing things.

Web 2.0 technology has made social networking a big hit, and several social networks are already established out there to reap the benefit of this technology. Facebook, linkedin and ecademy are examples of this. There is an endless list of networks out there.

You are maybe no technology freak, and may ask yourself at this stage, what is Web 2.0?

All you need to know is that this second generation of world wide web technology changes the way people like you and me are marketing our products and services. The Internet has become much more interactive and like minded people gather together in niche social networks to share their ideas and thoughts with each others.

Special Interest Communities are built where people contribute to the internet and make internet interactive.

Blogs came out on the Internet as a function of Web 2.0 development. Therefore you have the chance to take benefits from this technology by creating your DRB - Direct Response Blog.

So what is a DRB then, you might ask me at this stage?

A Direct Response Blog is a only web site with a very specific goal. A blog is a perfect starting point for you to learn the vital foundations on how to create an income from the Internet.

I will show you Blogging Business Models which can start you on the path of success.

All you need to promise me is that you commit yourself to your Blog when you have found a specific goal you want to achieve with it.

Business Model number 1 is called Blog flipping.

What this means is building a blog with the sole purpose that you are going to sell it.

Recently blogs have been sold for anywhere between 2,000 and 8,000 dollars. We are talking about blogs that have been around for as little as 6 months. There are of course individual factors to how  much a blog will sell for so you need to consider some points to consider before building a blog to flip (sell).

First you have to target a Market.

This is obviously a big factor since the more lucrative the market the more money you can expect to get for your Blog. So before jumping into building a  blog it may be worth checking out websites like AWEBER.COM and DIGITALPOINT.COM

to see what niche markets are selling.

Secondly you need to consider the Domain Name.

The domain name of the blog can help especially if its short and memorable you may also want to consider if it is keyword rich for the market you are targeting.

Thirdly you need to look into potential Income Streams

Another big point to consider before building the blog is what streams of income are available for the market you are targeting. Ideally you want as many as possible so plenty of affiliate products, advertisers  paying for payperclick ads etc.

An important point to consider it to not Personalize the Blog.

Blogs can have a very personal feel about them which is not a good thing if you plan to sell, if the regular readers are coming just because you have a great sense of humor then this can be a problem because once you sell the blog the readers will disappear and the buyer will feel ripped off. So you don't want to personalize the blog too much.

What are potential blog buyers looking at when buying a blog? You need to build an understanding of what you must concentrate on when growing the blog.

First you have to think of the look of the blog.

The blog has to have a professional trustworthy look and feel with a nice looking header graphic, which is the first thing visitors will see.

Then you need to think of Blog visitor's.

You need to keep a statistics of how many visitors/ page views the blog receives, this could be on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.

You need to consider Blog Subscribers as well.

You need to provide to potential buyers how many people subscribe to the blog either via email or rss feed.

Of course the potential buyers will know about Blog Income.

You need to provide an overview what income the Blog has already made and explain how steady this income is. You also need to give some ideas whether there could be some future income streams that could be added to the blog.

Keyword Ranking is a parameter potential buyers looks into as well.

How well is the blog ranking for any competitive keyword search terms in the big 3 search engines (Google, Yahoo and MSN).

Are there any other Ranking you could mention, then do it.

Does the blog have a google pr rank, technorati and alexa ranking?

Then finally they would look into the Links parameter.

They would be interested in knowing how many inbound links the blog has.

A lot of this is common sense when you want to make the blog as lucrative a possible to potential buyers.

Business Model number 2 - Affiliate Method

Let us talk about promoting affiliate products you’re your blog. There are 2 major ways to succeed with affiliate marketing.

The first one is to target keyword phrases that people would search for when they are in buying mode. What this means is when they are on the verge of buying a particular product. The kind of phrases you want to pay particular
attention to are actual product names so for example if they were searching for an electrical item they would search for the particular brand and model, or if it was a book or dvd whatever the case may be people will search for the name of the book or maybe the authors name.

Either way you can be pretty sure a visitor is in buying mode when they use name specific keyword phrases. As you would imagine keyword research tools from providers such as keyword elite and wordtracker are vital.
Your blog posts would be in the format of product review or maybe product comparison that way you could promote more than one product at a time.

The second way to succeed with affiliate marketing is to build an audience who trust your advice so that would mean sharing important and helpful information and then link in a product recommendation.
For this to work you would really need to know your target market and preferably have hands on knowledge of the products you are promoting.
If you build credibility in your target market then product owners may even approach you to promote there product or if you had a strong readership you could approach product owners yourself and ask for a review copy.

Affiliate marketing ties into the blog flip method we talked about above. You would maybe consider to put some banners or text ads linking to affiliate products that
are popular that way if the blog was bringing in some income before you sell it off then that will only raise the market value of your blog.

You should also be building an email list as part of your blog so you can send promotional emails now and again to bring in further revenue this can and should be done no matter what blogging business model you decide to choose.

12 methods on how to build a list of subscribers to your e-mail newsletters.

Newsletter Sign-Ups from Your Website

All e-mail management services provide the HTML for a subscription form which you can paste into your webpages, so the technical aspects of getting subscriptions aren't difficult. The real issues relate to marketing.

  1. Priority placement. Place the sign-up form prominently on your homepage, "above the fold" (i.e., visible on the first screen without having to scroll). Graphics and placement should draw the eye to this form. Getting subscriptions must be a high priority for your site if you hope to succeed!
  2. Multiple forms. Put a subscription form on nearly every webpage in your site. I've put a subscription form at the end of every article to catch readers when they're ready to take another action.
  3. Provide a rationale. In these days of information overload, you'll have to explain the benefits of subscribing in a compelling way.
  4. Provide an incentive. Offer a white paper, free e-books, entry in a contest to win an iPhone, discount coupons, the promise of Internet-only specials -- something that your subscribers value.
  5. Better yet, encourage use of the "forward to a friend" function that e-mail management services provide.

Offline Subscriptions

If you have the kind of business where you contact your customers on the phone or face-to-face:

  1. Ask customers to subscribe as you ring up their orders, providing a small registration blank next to the cash register or a bowl where they can leave a business card to subscribe (and enter a drawing).
  2. Exhibit in shows and actively solicit newsletter subscriptions.
  3. Provide telephone guidelines for employees to explain how to ask for a subscription during each call.
  4. Display your domain on all printed materials with the benefits of your newsletter -- on sales collateral, fliers, bags, business cards, advertising, etc.

Subscriptions from Other Lists and Websites

A final approach is to seek subscriptions from other websites and newsletter lists.

  1. Ask for a subscription during online checkout. Everyone who makes an online purchase should be asked to check a box to indicate his or her desire to receive a free newsletter subscription.
  2. Co-registration. You find partners whom you ask to place your subscription form on their "thank you for subscribing" webpages and offer to put their subscription forms on your thank you page.
  3. (www.coregcomplete.com) provides software to facilitate this. Some companies provide e-mail subscribers at 25¢ and up. Be careful, however, since co-reg subscribers often don't realize what they've really signed up for, may not be well targeted, and may unsubscribe or go dormant quickly. Monitor these subscribers carefully.
  4. Reciprocal plugs in complementary newsletters. Find newsletters you enjoy and ask the editors to plug your newsletter to their lists in exchange for you plugging their newsletters to your list. This works best when your list isn't too much smaller than theirs.

You don't have to use all these approaches, but employ as many as possible. Now go out there and build your list!

Business model number 3 is pay per click. Now for those of you who do not know what pay per click is, it's quite simple you place advertisements within your blog and if somebody clicks on the advertisement you get paid a percentage of what the advertiser has paid to place the advertisement with the ad network.

Sounds simple, well it is BUT there are a few drawbacks which I will cover first.

The amount you get paid per click is usually quite low so to really make money with this method your blog needs to be getting a serious amount of traffic (visitors) as obviously not everyone who visits your blog will click on a advertisement.

You have to have advertisers that are willing to pay for ads in your chosen market, so if you are in a small niche you may struggle.

The last drawback I am going to cover is if you have affiliate links on your blog as I talked about in business method number 2, do you really want to loose a visitor for a small amount that may have gone on to buy the affiliate
product which you would have got a better percentage from.

Pay Per Click Networks

There are many ad networks but the most widely used program is google adsense but there are others such as chikita and bidvertiser, all you have to do is visit there website and sign up for free then once your blog has been accepted you can place there code on your blog. After that the network will visit your blog and place relevant advertisements
aimed at the subject your blog or posts are about.

The ads come in all shapes, colors and sizes to suit your blog so you will need to test different locations on your blog to see which placements get the most clicks also you can use different networks on the same blog so it is worth testing to see which network brings in the most money.

Look out for my next article, where I will cover 2 more business models for a successful Direct Response Blog, which can be your way to a successful online Internet Business.
