Smaller Houses All The Rage With Todays Homeowners!

Many home buyers toward are edging toward a tendency many real estate industry scholars are surprised with; little and more affordable housing. It is reported that nearly 60% of the builders in the United States are building smaller scale houses, by the American Institute of Architects, and the higher demand for such construction is reinforced by the reduction in other costs of housing.

As the recession started to wreak havoc on the real estate market back in 2007 the size of houses being built started to decrease along with every one's' 401ks. The average square foot in houses shriveled about 10% right away and has continued to decline since then.

Many of the newer residences are even being built from salvage parts further reducing their costs. In some of these "cottages" the wood is salvaged from old barns, deconstructed residences or some other source of materials to accommodate the reduced budget of today's homeowners.

Given that the little homes are much cheaper in value and can still have many of the extravagances of larger homes, you can understand why the trends are pointing up for them.

One builder in California builds and sells small houses, both on wheels and on foundations. This builder can build little residences for around thirty thousand bucks and sells plans for a little over $900. He says that building a small home is similar to having a suit taylored to fit. Since it is a custom home, every plan has specific inclusions that are important to the home owners. The traditional construction that many small residences have to utilize are space savers like build in cupboards and storage space.

Major corporations like Lowe's, the home improvement retailer, vends it's own "Katrina Cottages" designed to counter F.E.M.A.'s toxic trailers.

smaller scale residences induce an interesting psychological dynamic on the homeowners in which they simply do not tend to want more stuff as their small home already seem full. Many homeowners are taking those exact thoughts to heart and exchanging their energy "McMansions" for little, if not more humble houses.

Do not be fooled into thinking that these smaller homes are lacking in luxuries or the modern creature comforts of larger houses. They smaller residences even feature amenities like claw foot tubs and doubel door refrigerators for those of us who prefer those appliances. The green houses angle is one that cannot be overlooked in terms of a smaller home size either.

Featuring reduced energy costs and lower mortgage payments, little residences are really an easy sale. houses that have conventional ceiling heights of about 8 feet have a record of reduced energy costs. This holds true for not only heat but air conditioning as well, so this reduced home plan tendency works everywhere from Texas to Alaska.

Not only can you save on your energy costs but you can also save in regard to the way you use your building lot. With more room on your lot due to the fact that you home now takes up less space on your lot, you can use your lot to put up solar panels, solar water heaters or grow your own veggies. Putting up that extra concreate pad for a basketball hoop may even be a reality!
