Strategies to Promote your business

You have your website and it looks great. In this competitive marketplace, you cannot stop here; you have got to promote your website.

We'll assume that your website does look great---or at least is functioning. With so many online businesses giving free websites, it can be difficult to customize them. But you still have to drive people to your site or someone else will be clicking away with your customer.

Chances are, your financial investment in your online business has been minimal as compared to someone opening up a traditional brick and mortar business. You should be ready to spend some money to promote your site and in the end, you'll probably recoup most or all of those expenses fairly quickly. Some suggestions are free, and some have nominal costs. But if you really want your online business to succeed, people have to know you exist and you have to get them to your website.

Here are some ways to promote your website without breaking the bank.

1. Press releases. Issuing press releases is one of the most cost-effective methods of marketing. Unless you're a terrific writer and know what wire services will accept, chances are you are going to hire someone to write your release for you. Most services will ask you to include pertinent or interesting information about yourself or your business. Take them up on this. The more distinguish you and your business are from your competitor's, the better. Try to come up with an interesting angle, or perhaps include some interesting personal information that can make your press release stand out from the rest.

2. Blog. Blogs are great ways to set yourself apart from the pack. You're not blatantly promoting your website here, but taking a more subtle approach by setting yourself up as an expert in your field. Be sure you include a link back to your main site. Don't worry if no one is leaving a comment. That doesn't necessarily mean your blog isn't working. Blog are often visited and articles read but the reader may not leave a comment, so do not become discouraged. Blogs should be updated often and should never be considered a replacement for an ad. Your blogs should be informational and fun. Remember, you want people to come back again to read what you have to say and hopefully turn into customers or recruits

3. Write articles for e-zines. Most e-zines will allow you to put a link to your website, which is the whole purpose of writing the article in the first place. Again, try to write something related to your business that is informational.

4. Email marketing. Although many business communication forms have come and gone, e-mail marketing has survived over the years, it is still considered an effective and inexpensive way to sell your business online or offline. Keep your message fresh and up-to-date by changing it often. One of the best marketing tools available to business owners is the use of e-mail. In fact, a survey of Fortune 500 companies found that across the board they all intended to increase their e-mail marketing this year.

5. Improve your search engine optimization (SEO). The better your SEO, the higher you appear on Google and other search engines. You can find many online tutorials on how to improve you SEO, which may be the best way to get people to your site.
