Slave hard drive from computer that will not boot

My 3 month old Gateway laptop will not boot!! I receive an error message "a disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart."  I have the operating disk but I am concerned about losing important files (i.e. documents and pictures).  I have another laptop and a desktop. How can I slave my hard drive from the Gateway to one of the other computers that I own?

I have "Adobe Shockwave Player", "Adobe Reader 8.0" and "Adobe Flash Player ActiveX" installed on my computer.  Periodically there is an error box that pops up that says "cannot find macromedia flash".  Since this box has been popping up, my screensaver is not working.  How do I repair this problem?  I am not completely computer illiterate, but, there are some areas that I'm not familiar with.  Would appreciate the help!
