Hi,
Just need other opinions on how to handle an employee that seems to have lots of issues about being sick and not contacting us at work. (I have an open mind and realize things happen in life and we get sick and/or a family member)....the main problem is that she doesn't call us first thing in the morning when we expect her at work and we have to wonder what is wrong, is she okay? We usually have to get ahold of her on her cell phone and finally reach her after about an hour or longer after she was to be at work. She could have easily had her Mom or her boyfriend call us...(this employee is 43 years old so she is not a teenager learning about the workfield)
The latest problem we have had is that she threw her back out while we were on vacation and has not bothered to call us and talk to my husband or myself personnally since we've been back, it's now been a week and no word from her....she has called once and talked to our manager....we don't know if or when she is having surgery or if or when she will even be back to work...
I feel she hasn't handled this last situation very well and that it shows no respect to my husband and I (we own the business together)
I'm wondering what my next step should be....as I said she has done this about 4 other occasions.
