Working from home is where it's happening right now. Most of us would love to do it and for many it is only a dream, but now you can make your work from home dream a reality through the internet and your home computer. Traditionally however, if you were to be socially acceptable you would have to have either a high paying job or a formal career. In days gone by, not really that long ago, this was true particularly for the male population, being labelled the providers. Thank goodness everything is changing, we are now more concerned with quality of life for ourselves and our families. There are multitudes of people around the world, both male and female, who are currently working fewer than the traditional 40 to 60 hour weeks, and they're doing it from the comfort of their own homes. Amazingly they are working less hours and earning more money than is usually possible in the regular work force. It doesn't just sound great, it is a reality for many and worthy of consideration for many others.

Working from home is not just for parents of infants anymore, however making an income while being at home with your children is ideal for many families. You no longer need to miss all the "firsts" of your children, you can never get those moments back. Setting your hours around their schedule can be helpful in accommodating stress reduction, possibly of your entire household. It also means no commute to the office, no overbearing bosses, no deadlines, and most importantly no-one breathing down your neck. Once you have established an income it also gives you that peace-of-mind that your company is not going to suddenly decide that your services are no longer required. Let's face it, in the current economic climate all employees are at a risk. Now is the time to think "outside the square" and familiarise yourself with other methods of income.

The latest work at home opportunities are internet based. You have probably either heard of, or have been looking around for the perfect work from home opportunity online. You might have thought most of these are just pure SCAMS, and as this method of income generation is relatively new to us, who can blame you. There are most certainly a good number of scamming sharks out there on the net, who are cashing in with their vulturous tactics. I do believe as time goes by, these will be weeded out. In this regard, it is important to check out some of the 'scam watchdog' sites in order to gather information before proceeding with any program. Doing your homework will pay off in the long run. There are a good number of perfectly legitimate opportunities on the net, they are not all scams. Most of these are information driven, and as such, are fairly recession-proof as the hunger for information is not likely to decline any time soon - recession or no recession. Don't be mistaken, people pay good money for valuable information.

In order to successfully work from home a reasonable level of self-discipline, motivation and organisation is required that not everyone will posses. You just have to use your common sense when scheduling your week. There is a lot of advice being given about how to develop good behaviours in regard to working without a boss, they say getting up in the morning and dressing for the part, as if you were going out to work, makes you more motivated. Setting a regular schedule and starting work at the same time each day, having timed lunch breaks etc. will keep you more productive. Want to know what I think - baloney! Personally I suspect this advice is being flaunted around by those who have never worked from home. The whole point of running your own business is to bring flexibility and joy back into your life. If you're comfy working in your pj's or shorts, then do that! If you love the work suit, then do that! What ever makes you feel comfortable, there is NO BOSS. You're IT! And don't forget that.

You can work any time you want, and in any way you want. Some people are more productive at night while others are at their sharpest first thing in the morning, it's really up to you to choose your hours. It's better to work when you're feeling productive than trying to force it. Take it from me, I've been working from home for the last decade or so and I've never stressed about being 'late' for work. It's ridiculous.

Of course you have to make a commitment to get certain things done during your week, in order to be successful. Honestly, that's pretty obvious, but it's really no different than scheduling all the other normal things you fit in to your week like cooking meals, keeping up with the hygiene of your home, doing your shopping, etc. My advice is to take on this philosophy - The less you stress, the more you get done.

As there are only so many hours in the day, what we need to do is create an income stream that requires very little input in order to gain the maximum financial benefit. Also, the flexibility of managing your own schedule allows you to pursue your other interests and hobbies. Most of us who have at some time been engaged in the working world generally work to live, although I'm sure we all know someone out there who lives to work! These days we all need multiple streams of income, no matter what your financial situation. Working from home brings freedom, however you must choose something you enjoy.

Free time is a luxury that most of us enjoy, the whole idea of working from home is to make it a more frequent and normal part of your life.
