The Work Of A Virtual Assistant Is Easier Now With The Support Of New Technology

For a virtual assistant, work is inherently wrapped up with technology since that’s how they keep in touch with their boss. Cell phones, the internet, laptops and PDA’s all combine to make a great set of tools to keep any business running smoothly. Lately there’s been a slew of new tech that makes the logistics of maintaining a virtual office even easier, including the advent of city wide wireless coverage in many areas and new linkage between various electronic tools.

Remote assistants usually cover incoming calls, scheduling, travel arrangements, and whatever else is needed. One of the more liberating developments in tech is the new wireless grids showing up in major cities. Access to the internet is now nearly everywhere and it’s become common for assistants to head to a local coffeehouse with their laptop and PDA phone for a morning of work.

Another impact that wireless technology has had is in the transfer of documents and files. Anyone with access to the internet via a wireless service can now upload documents to any number of file sharing sites and transfer them around the world. Fax machines are replaced by scanners and with electronic signatures becoming more and more common it’s not unusual for a contract to be drafted, approved, finalized, sent, signed and returned without being printed out even once.

The interlinking of various electronic devices is another part of the new support system that makes a virtual assistant able to get more done with less effort. There are several programs that allow a cell phone to be routed through a laptop, logging calls and allowing contact info to automatically to added to databases. Most PDA’s hook up to laptops as well, both wirelessly and with cables, and schedules can be coordinated and transferred easily. Online accounting systems as well as advanced project software now have PDA applications that allow input from various sources to be instantly uploaded and integrated.

A virtual assistant is not always just a single person. There are many companies that provide virtual receptionists as well as remote assistants and these businesses offer staff that can be available round the clock and cover everything from financial reports to website updates. Between all the improvements in technology and the various companies that offer 24/7 administrative support, the work of getting work done is becoming easier.
