There are temporary motivators and long-term motivators. The only long-term motivator that works, that increases in power every time you use it, that propels you to long-term success is CONTRIBUTION. Anything short of contribution will ultimately fail or fizzle out. Anything less than contribution, service, or a higher purpose is almost always selfish in nature. And it almost always has a destination.
Anything with a destination has a completion, meaning the juice and the motivation leaves. Either because you get to the destination or you get tired and give up on trying to reach the destination. It doesn’t even matter what the destination is. There are endless destinations. Money. Wealth. Success. A certain dollar amount. Achieving something. Winning a championship. Approval. Fame. Acknowledgement. Being good enough. Survival. It doesn’t matter. They’re all destinations.
Anything selfish in nature doesn’t work either. Many times life coaches are trying to earn enough money so they feel valuable and good about themselves. That always fails in the end and never leads to fulfillment.
Now you can experience success from selfish causes. But the success won’t ultimately last, and even more important you’ll never be fulfilled or happy. You won’t find what you’re looking for.
The only thing that causes continuous joy, happiness and fulfillment is contribution. And everyone in the end wants to get to a space of contribution. But many never really get there like they want to. Contribution is not a destination. Contribution is a journey. And that’s the point. Contribution is moment to moment every moment. When you’re in a place of contribution, you’re happy and fulfilled. Because it’s not about you. It’s about others.
Contribution is the only motivator that can provide you with long-term success and fulfillment. Whatever your motivations are, begin weeding out your fears and selfish desires so you can come from a place of contribution. And just a hint, if you’re coming from that place, you’ll attract lots more clients than if you’re coming from a place of wanting to be successful and earn money. Contribution is a life-time aspiration and practice, and the only worthwhile and fulfilling practice there is.
