Why it's Important To Understand Your Advertising Return On Investment

In the business world, almost every business owner is doing some type of advertising, either online, in the newspaper or in their local yellow page directories. When it comes to advertising, one of the big mistakes that business owners make is not thinking about the return on investment that they are receiving from their advertising.

Return on investment is the amount of sales or new customer leads that your advertising investment was able to generate for your business. If you're not thinking about return on investment with your current form of advertising you may be wasting a lot of money every single month on advertising.

Promo Items

Promotion marketing items like pens, pencils, notepads or tote bags with your business name, logo, 1-800 number or website address printed on them offer a better return on investment than other forms of advertising because they have a very low cost per impression per item. For example: the average cost per impression for a promotional baseball cap is around two cents per impression and tee shirts have a cost per impression of less than half a cent per impression. When you compare these costs per impressions to the national print advertising or cable television advertising which typically have a cost per impression of 19 cents to 33 cents, it's not hard to see that promotional items are more affordable and offer a better return on investment.

Focused Marketing

One of the mistakes that business owners make with advertising is not choosing the right place to advertise, especially online. Many business owners advertise on websites that their customers or prospects would never visit and they wonder why they aren't seeing an increase in sales leads or new business from their advertising investment.

With promotional advertising, a business owner benefits because their business name, logo, 1-800 number, website address or marketing message is imprinted on items that their customers use every single day. The more times a customer or potential customer uses those items, the more their marketing message is branded on their minds. This is a win, win situation for the business owner because when the people who use their promotional items need services or products like theirs, their company will be the first to be called over their competitors.
