Beat rising postage costs by using an online courier service

The Royal Mail played Scrooge just before Christmas in 2010, announcing that it was putting up the price of first class and second class deliveries of a range of letters and packages. The price of sending mail by first and second class post will rise from April. The increases, while in line with an agreement between the government and the state-owned mail delivery business, will mean people shopping around even more for the best deal on their UK and international deliveries.

It was still being stressed by senior Royal Mail officials that Britons pay far less for their postal deliveries in general than people in the rest of Europe. But they also said that the current six day a week delivery service would be unsustainable without it being able to generate more income. Meanwhile, people who have heavier and more bulky items to send can make savings on their delivery costs, by shopping around for the services of a UK courier or, if sending items further afield, an international parcel delivery specialist.

In fact, parcel delivery is becoming another area of everyday life where people are becoming more aware of possible cost-saving options available to them. For several years now, they have become accustomed to going online to find the best deals on a range of goods and commodities, from a TV to their telephone bill. This has all been made possible by the loosening of regulations over who can offer certain services – and it was clear that parcel delivery was one of the areas with the greatest potential for extra competition.

It has resulted in people regularly logging on to check where they can find the best price for a domestic or international parcel delivery. It is based on the simple premise that companies operating in the international delivery field have huge capacity, much of which is often unused. So giving them the freedom to sell that space on to other providers means that their vehicles can be run more efficiently, and they can still earn a return on the cost of delivering the extra items.

The lower overheads incurred by a company operating via the internet is also a benefit which online couriers can pass on to their customers. They do not need to have space for sorting parcels, and nor do they need expensive capacity for accommodating and servicing delivery vehicles. Given these advantages, it is clear why more people and businesses are cutting their costs by using an online courier service.

Arranging a home delivery online is so easy, and it is still possible to get great service from the well-established UK couriers which offer such services.
