Have a broad vision for yourself and let academic success be part of that vision. If you have a good vision and you are not committed to achieving it, that vision will perish. Your vision should be clearer to you than anyone else. A clear vision makes knowledge relevant to situation.
When setting your academic goals. Such goals must be very clear, realistic and challenging. The goals at each level must be greater and more tasking than the previous one. If the magnitude and scope of your academic vision is not significantly wide enough at each level, the pursuit will not be too challenging and interesting, and the success cannot be an excellent one.
Such goals should among other things cover for immediate contingencies, short term needs and long range plans. To achieve all these, ensure the following;
1. Ask yourself, what is required of you to succeed now? What level of success do you want to achieve at a particular time in your life? What are the estimated costs of this success in terms of money, time, emotions, etc?
2. Outline your mission objectives clearly and realistically, and follow it precept upon precept and line upon line.
3. Be flexible on issues that will not compromise your success but very firm if otherwise.
4. Do not take for granted anything that can frustrate your effort.
5. Write your vision down, make it plain so that others who have direct influence on your success can know where to come in.
6. Make up your mind to pay the price to attain your vision.
Your goals and objectives are ingredients of your vision. The objectives are the means or vehicle with which you intend to achieve the ultimate goal. Therefore, outline your short term mission, plan and organize your work, and set your personal objectives.
