Home Based Business: the Right Mentor Equals Profits

Every home based business owner needs a mentor. It doesn't matter if you're new to the business or a veteran, you simply cannot go it alone. And I would have to say it's more important in today's economy than ever before.

So you may be asking yourself, with all the hyped-up "guru" know it all's out there just who do you believe? And who do you follow? And are they for real?

Well….I would love to tell you there is a clear answer here but there's not. It really is about who you will mess with. When I started my home based business with Global Resorts Network I wanted to work with my sponsor. I believed he would be the best source of knowledge since he was already in the business. Wrong!

Network marketing sponsors are good for business knowledge but not necessarily internet marketing. You should be looking for someone who has experience with various forms of marketing, online and offline to become really successful. So here are a few qualities for you to consider when choosing a mentor for your home business opportunity.

___Leadership skills. Now by this I mean do they know how to translate what they are doing to become successful into a language you can understand. Are they open and willing to help you become successful? You don't want to work with someone who is unwilling to give you all the tools you need to become successful.

___Marketing knowledge. What methods are they using to market? Will it work for any business opportunity? By this I mean do they or others on the team have the knowledge to utilize all forms of marketing…such as Web 2.0, direct marketing, or are they stuck on one form. One form is OK if it's successful, but is it right for you, and will it serve you well in the future?

___Time. This can be very important. It's great to be under someone who is very successful, but if you don't have access to that knowledge then how will you learn. Systems with training built into them are great, but nothing takes the place of the personal touch. You should not be expecting hand holding, you need to be responsible for your own success, but you do need someone to call on if you hit a brick wall.

Finding the right mentor will save you time, energy, money and stress from the beginning. Take the time to understand what they have to offer and make sure it's right for you.
