Metro Bank will open it's doors for the first time next week, and amidst all the hype and fanfare, it would be worth while knowing what all the fuss is about and why we need another bank anyway. Vernon Hill - Metro Bank's vice-chairman and biggest shareholder, answers the obvious question surrounding the lack of security screens - what about potential robberies? "Do you build a bank for the one in 10,000 people who are going to rob you or to give a better experience to the 9,999 who come in every day?" he says. "We're there for our customers' convenience, not our own".
He has also introduced the 15 minute start-up for new accounts and the provision of immediate credit and debit cards. They will replace lost or stolen credit cards on the spot. "Our job", he says "is to eliminate every stupid bank rule we can find."
So far, so good. Metro Bank appears to be in the service industry - actually providing useful benefits for its customer.
As you can see in this review, Metro Bank have taken a big swipe at the dinosaur banking practices and it is easy to see why it promises to be the great start of a new banking era. There are many other aspects not covered in this review, but like any new venture, they still have their work cut-out to entice new customers and their wealth.
