Desire is the key to motivation, and visualization of your goals and dreams will keep the desire alive. Paint a picture in your mind of the lifestyle you are working towards and bring it to mind several times a day. Create a "dream board" or "vision board" with pictures of the material things you wish to acquire, or the activities you want to pursue when you have the means to do so and put it in a prominent place where you can see it often.

Affirmations will help to keep away the demon of self-doubt and encourage you to keep plugging away. The funny thing about habits is...the bad ones are hard to quit, and the good ones are hard to start. Use any means at your disposal to remind yourself to self-motivate. Set up your computer, your cellphone, or your PDA to jog your memory about your goals and dreams and positive affirmations on a regular basis. You can also post notes on your mirror, your dashboard, or inside the cover of your day planner to bring these things to mind.
