What’s Better – Earn by Conventional Means or Make Online Money?

While it's easier and cheaper to set up an online business, people could feel safer with the more traditional ways of operating an online business - having an office or shop. As more and more individuals are able to earn money online, enough to make it their primary source of living, the rest of the world that’s still alienated from the Internet is finally sitting up and taking notice: which is better, easier, and ultimately more profitable – earning by conventional means or making money online?

The answer is unique as your finger print. It’s totally determined by what you ultimately want from a job or business. Can you honestly see yourself spending weeks at a computer perfecting the beginning stages of a website and then gradually working with a small team to rise that business to new heights, or would you take a softer approach as sell a couple of unique products or services? Either way you need to be prepared to learn some new things and apply them to each opportunity that crosses your path.

PROFITABILITY

Let’s go straight to the point and tackle the uppermost thing in most people’s minds: which type of job gives you better profit margins? The answer: both. Whether you’re doing business online or by conventional means like setting up an actual office or shop, the profit margin of your business will still ultimately rely on what you’re selling and how you’re selling it. What about the time commitment? How much time are you willing to put into an online business? There are many opportunities so require very little time to master, others require months if not years to understand. Choose carefully.

ENTRY BARRIERS

It’s easier to earn online than starting your own offline business in most small business cases that we're greatly familiar with. On the Internet, everyone starts the same: you build a website to the best of your capabilities and do what you can by way of resources to get people to visit it. It’s not that much different in the online world, there's plenty of red tape in both scenarios. There are literally thousands of internet businesses starting everyday and thousands getting offline. An online business requires less manpower and startup funds, and you can certainly see the final result much quicker. However, quitting your day job without first establishing your business is not my advice, it’s important to make sure that your business has legs before committing yourself that extensively. Because it is so easy for people to do it, you will more than likely have a lot of competition. This is where your research pays.

CONVENIENCE

Without a doubt, making money online is more convenient than having the usual eight-hour office job. Firstly, you don’t have to leave your home if you don’t want to when working online: you can set up your office straight from your bedroom if that’s what you wish. Or at the opposite end of the spectrum you can travel around the world with a business from your laptop - my personal favorite. There is no minimum amount of hours that you have to work for each day – you work only when you want to. And probably most important of all, online businesses can usually operate by itself just as long as you've put in the time to discovering how to set up correctly and you’re using the right tools.

COMPETITION

The level of competition you’re going to face depends greatly on the type and size of your industry and market. In the outside world, access to your market is greatly affected by your finances, but in the Internet, everyone is immediately accessible by their email addresses, communication couldn't be quicker and easier, so most things move at light speed. But, don't be too concerned as there are fundamentals you can learn that will never change. Understanding your competition is a must before you start your online business.

Of course, since the Internet is easier to penetrate, this could also mean websites offering the same products for the same prices, forcing you to find competitive advantages in other means than price. But, in the future nothing will sell more than having a good business customer relationship. So stay in contact with your customers and build an ongoing relationship.

SECURITY OF TENURE

While I used to lease office space for around $5,000 per month. The internet business hosting, which is much the same as a lease on cost me $99 for a whole year! So it’s certain the Internet is here to stay so building an online company is not just a response to any fad or trend. Your online business could last just as long as any land-based shop and its long-term success will always depend on your diligence as the business owner and the quality and evolution of the products or services you’re selling. With online tenure so expensive the majority of your money should be put into understand the wants and needs of your customer and of course promoting your site to them.

In the end, it’s still up to you. While it’s easier and cheaper to set up an online business, if you have the capital, experience and it just feels more comfortable for you to be operating via a traditional business then go for it. Always do what feels right!
