With the DVR you can actually store hours and hours of programs that you have recorded off of live television, and if you ever run out of space on the DVR you can simply delete old programs to make room for the new ones. This would be when it was recorded at the higher quality speed and the viewer would end up with only the last half of his or her program recorded!
