First of all, a satellite television system signals are transmitted to an orbiting satellite that receives the signal and amplifies it and transmits it back to earth. The signal from these Satellite TV systems is transmitted from satellites that are in a geo-synchronous orbit around the earth - meaning that these satellites stay in the same point in the sky with respect to the earth.

Digital Satellite is the main transmission medium used in delivering High Definition Television (HDTV). It has proven to be one of the best if not the best broadcast medium that can match the quality of the picture and sound provided by today's cutting edge digital satellite HDTV technology.

Free Digital Satellite TV which is also synonymous to free to air satellite is a term used to describe satellite broadcasts or transmissions which anybody can receive legally without a subscription and the programs are not encrypted but is usually encoded with MPEG-2.

So unlike satellite television programming which requires the user to take out a subscription in order to watch programs, with digital free satellite TV the channels are not encrypted and you can receive them as long as you have a MPEG-2 compatible satellite receiver. Free to air satellite TV was transmitted on C Band now most programs have now migrated to Ku Band with subscribers been able to receive these programs using a much smaller satellite dish.

To receive digital free satellite TV, you need to know what satellite frequency and polarity the channel is transmitted on, the symbol rate and the forward error correction the channel utilize. You also need to know the broadcast format – NTSC, PAL DigiCipher, or DVB. You need to have a satellite dish if either C or KU band, a satellite receiver or a PC card with an antenna. You can also get a rotor instead for you to receive more than one satellite channel on your pc. Since it is free to air satellite, it is totally legal and works anywhere on the globe.

You do not need to purchase any extra hardware or TV card for your pc if you go for a satellite TV on PC software. This software pool all the channels links from their various websites and streamed them on your laptop for viewing.

So all you need is a good internet connection, install the program on your laptop and off you go enjoying satellite TV. You do not need to pay any subscriptions fees or recurring charges to watch the programs, just a one time fee of less than $50!
