How to record TV shows

One of the most traditional ways of recording TV shows is through the use of VCR and DVD recorders. While doing their job amply 10-20 years ago they're well out of date and even had severe issues. Firstly you couldn't actually store many TV programmes before filling up a VCR or DVD, this lead to us having massive collections of redundant films and shows we would never watch again. VCRs also degrade in quality after time meaning all those special moments that you recorded will eventually loose quality.

You don't have to worry though as currently there are two great alternatives out on the market which you could easily purchase today. One of these options is Blu-Rays, which look very similar to DVDs but are very different at the same time. The major advantage that they have above DVDs is that they can store many more TV shows on them, this means you can cut back on the amount of DVD's you have in your house. Blu-Ray discs also offer higher definition than DVDs so they are great to record HD programmes on.

The other main way of recording content from your TV is to use a HD recorder. Hard Drive (or HD) recorders allow you to record TV shows directly from the TV into the box without having to deal with any of those pesky discs. This help save even more space, although as there is a limited amount of storage space you can't keep adding more and more content without removing some of the old.

With HD recorders you can programme them to automatically record whole series, which not only ensures you don't miss any episodes, but it also means you do not have to take the time to set up the recording for each episode. Because of the large storage capacity, you can store several series at once, so you don't have to miss a single show.

These HD recorders also have several other advantages over their disc based cousins; such as if they're equipped with a "Twin Tuner" it's possible for you to record one channel or show whilst watching another. This is great if there are two competing shows on at the same time and you want to watch both. This makes the ‘'Twin Tuner'' an essential tool if you want to avoid massive family bust-ups over the remote.

Jake Reacher thinks that a flat tv offers great viewing flexibility as a flat tv can be mounted on any wall.
