The Top Five Bill Murray Performances of All Time on Satellite TV

Bill Murray first came on the scene via his standout work on Saturday Night Live. Since then, he has produced an astounding body of work in both comedic and dramatic roles. While Lost In Translation found him among the nominees for the Best Actor Oscar, it is in these five films that Murray did his best work and can be seen on satellite TV.

5. Caddyshack. For those who think golf is a boring game played by stuffy elite characters, check out this film, which uses that premise to tell its hilarious tale. Featuring the frightening image of a chocolate bar floating across a pool and a legendary performance by Rodney Dangerfield, it’s Bill Murray who shines the most as a slovenly groundskeeper whose obsession is to stop a gopher from running amok on the greens. This film is a staple on networks like TBS and Comedy Central in HD.

4. Ghostbusters. Originally a part for John Belushi, this comedy put Bill Murray on the map. Featuring his trademark sarcasm and deadpan reaction to whatever extraterrestrial creature crosses his path, Murray makes this movie more fun than you’d think possible. A pop culture phenomenon, Ghostbusters spawned sequels and was a merchandiser’s dream, while remaining a hit to this day on satellite TV premium movie networks.

3. Stripes. A wild and raucous mess, Stripes is what happens when do-nothings decide to join the army. Murray’s preternatural calm works wonders again, especially when coupled with the maddening routines that are part of army life. The incredible drill routine fronted by Murray -- and the group’s subsequent excursion into Communist Czechoslovakia -- are scenes worthy of the best comedies.

2. Groundhog Day. The trademark Murray vehicle, Groundhog Day was the product of another script by Harold Ramis, who also directed. Getting into fantastical territory, the film works perfectly with Murray’s deadpan style. Playing an egocentric weatherman who can’t change his tune until he is forced to see a different path -- through the repetition of a single day for eternity -- Murray has some of his finest moments. In response to hearing Andie MacDowell’s qualifications for her dream man, he gets tired of listening and asks, “We’re talking about a man, right?”

1. Rushmore. Giving Murray the opportunity to show off his serious and comic sides simultaneously, this film may have the most ideal Bill Murray role ever. It’s certainly his best. As a middle-aged suburban businessman who’s fed up with his life, Murray’s character strikes up an unconventional friendship with Max -- a prep school classmate of his sons -- while falling for the same woman. See this film in HD on the Independent Film Channel.

Bill Murray is one of those performers who can fill any room with laughter, but there’s nothing funny about letting your business fall off the mark. See what a Direct TV business account can do to keep your company up-to-date. With the finest business programming available on satellite TV, a Direct TV business account will give your workplace that competitive edge you need.
