Many broadcasting networks are now going on the web to widen their fan base giving opportunities for people to watch TV online, at least with their most popular shows. This becomes a good option for a show doing poorly in the ratings making them available online strengthens their ratings; consequently establish a larger fan base as they are watched online.
With broadband Technologies improving steadily over the years, TV broadband has become a concept that has erodes the poor quality TV streaming that was associated with watching TV on the web. As Internet connections have become faster, the ability to watch TV online has become much more practically enjoyable.
Efforts by satellite channels providers are paying off now as it becomes easier to convert all digital TV broadcasts with less loss of picture quality to online viewing. Current survey shows by a study by The Convergence Consulting Group that there is a steady increase in online viewership from 2005 to 2008.
Convergence estimates that 9% of TV viewers had viewed full-episode broadcast/cable/network TV shows in 2007, up from 6% in 2006. It hit 14% in mid 2008 and 23% in 2010. Though with this development many broadcasters are just still using the web as an option to TV viewing in keeping with broadband trend as well a tool to increase and maintain their market.
The convention home TV has come to stay but I believe there will be convergence of technologies especially broadband and wireless to make the traditional TV converge seamlessly with online TV viewing. I am among those that theorize that Internet TV will not replace the home TV.
Except you have a large LCD screen, it's simply not as comfortable to watch TV online. The 15" or 17" laptops the biggest in the market so far would not replace the latest enormous flat, plasma, HDTV screen, and especially family programs would be hard to watch on many of the smaller computer monitors.
The idea of watching clear good quality satellite channels videos on the laptop is a good catch that is fast becoming a norm.
I am longer in rush like few years back when I miss my favorite shows, all I have to do is just to click on my TV on PC software which already has pool all these web TVs in a menu driven bar and off I go to view my shows. My catch has been if you can watch TV online with fewer commercials, why sit down to watch regular TV at all?
