Camp Food - Eat Great on Your Next Camping Trip!

Posted: Jul 11, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

If you want a successful camping trip you better remember to bring some great food! That is right, some foods just taste better when cooked over a campfire or eaten outdoors.  Plus, no one will enjoy the trip very much if they don't have some delicious meals waiting for them after a long day hiking and swimming.

No camping trip is complete without a few good meals to keep everyone cheery and ready for campfire fun. The best way to ensure you have enough food for all of your meals is to make a menu ahead of time. If you know what you are eating, you will know what to take and about how much you'll need.

Now you don't have to create gourmet meals while you are in the wilderness. Not at all, in fact your camping meals should be simple, but filling.  Just make sure you have plenty of snacks for everyone to enjoy throughout the day.

The best foods for camping are things that are fun and easy to make. Of course no camping trip would be complete without hot dogs roasted over the fire. If you are roasting hot dogs, make sure you bring all the supplies for s'mores as well. No camping trip would be complete without a gooey, delicious s'more!

Part of camp food planning is to have a cooler and ice packs to keep your food fresh. Any canned items that you want to take can be packed a few days ahead of time to help make leaving the house a little less stressful. The refrigerated items should be packed at the last minute. (And if you've planned things right, it will be the only thing you have to pack at the last minute.)

Don't forget to pack some water. It doesn't have to be great water that is pre-bottled from the store. It can be regular tap water. The reason you want to take your own is quite simple. You never really know if the water at the campsite is going to be drinkable, or even likable for that matter. For this reason, having your own water on hand can save you a lot of "gross, I don't like this water" from any kids you might be toting along on the trip. It is also a good idea to have an empty two-liter pop bottle with you for any water that you might need to collect for doing the dishes or putting out the fire.

If you have enough good food, any camping trip will be a success. Even if the weather is bad you can sit in the tent or trailer and snack on treats while you play cards.  Camping is a fun adventure that needs to be fueled well. Well fed campers are happy campers!

A bunch of my friends got together and went down in the boonies for a two-day canoe trip. The first night was set up tents. Then it was time for the adults to wrestle up dinner. So, I asked, "What's for dinner?", to which the response was "Spaghetti". Now, I'm thinking and then I said it, "I never had spaghetti on a camping trip before".
