Camping Tent Shopping - Reasons To Make It A Family Activity

When you plan a camping trip along with the whole family it is but fair that everyone has a say in the
selection of the tent. This is the place that most of the family activities will happen and you have to make
sure that everyone is comfortable. No doubt the environment will have a lot to do with the whole camping
expedition, but you have to make sure that your tent is also ok and not damaged in any way. The best way to
ensure this is to have a trial run in your own back yard. Pitch the tent and have a back yard camp and see if
there is any kind of problem or damage to the tent. During this time you can all sit together and make a list of all the essentials that the family should get together for the camping trip.

What kind of a tent do you buy
You could buy a tent or rent one according to your budget and the families requirements. You would have to bare in mind the number of people who would occupy the tent, the durability of it, it should be strong and of water
proof material to withstand the rains and the winds, should have enough ventilation and also protect you against the insects. Some families would want tents that have more space with more rooms and privacy and areas where all the gear and equipment could be stores as well as space to put away the shoes that have become muddy after a trek.

How veteran campers select their tents
Campers who are experienced and are veterans at it always consider the worst conditions that they may have to
come across before deciding on the kind of tent they should buy. Though tents that are called the 3 season
tents are more popular it is wiser to go in for a 4 season one for conditions that may be quite extreme in
mountainous regions with the winters being quite heavy. These tents are well ventilated and yet provide good
protection against a light snow or heavy rainfall. For the summer and warmer weather conditions a 1 season tent would suffice and you could take along with you a rain fly and in case there is heavy rain an additional tarp
for protection.

Family camping tents
Models and styles of family camping tents have different occupancy ratings ranging from 4 people to 8 people
per tent. You must consider the sleeping accommodation for the number of people and it should be comfortable for everyone. You could opt to either buy or to rent a large tent so there is enough room for everyone to eat,
sleep, sit, stand and move around comfortably. You could find these large family tents grouped under one
category in the websites and also the camping gear stores so that it is easy for you to identify what you want.

Wall tents and cabin tents come under this category as they come under the group camping one. These tents are
too heavy for back packing and are better suited for carrying by car to your camping site. You could go for
geodesic tents and modified domes which have curved and criss crossed poles and are easier to pack and weigh a
lot less too, though they can hold the same number of people as other tents. These tents provide protection
from the rain with their double wall, good ventilation, enough space and are easy to put up. They can also be
put up on calm weather condition days as freestanding tents. The best variety of tents will give you two
vestibules and two doors and if you want you can extend the area with a gazebo or awning to a family tent. If
the weather proves to be bad they give you sufficient protection along with the tent and if it is fair weather
time then you can enjoy yourself with reading, playing games, talking and eating in your tent.

So if you involve your whole family in the selection of your tent it makes everyone a part of the adventure
from the beginning.
