Crank Lanterns are Both Convenient and Useful

At some point, everyone will have to deal with a power outage. You might be doing your laundry or reading a book when you instantly find yourself in the dark. As you're trying to find your way through the house, you look for candles and hope you can find a pack of matches. You end up stumbling over things and stubbing your toe while your trying to get some light since you hardly ever use these things.

If you had a wind up lantern, however, you could avoid the difficulties altogether and be back in business as soon as the lights flickered. These handy little tools are great for all kinds of scenarios, including power outages.

When you purchase your first wind up lantern, you can expect several basic features that are included on most models. First, the lantern operates on LED lights. These take very little electricity for the amount of light they project. Some models have as many as a half dozen of these lights to give out a decent amount of light. The lights are powered by a hand crank. Winding for as little as one minute can give you around fifteen minutes to a half hour of light.

Also, most of all of the models have additional survival and safety features, the most well-known and appreciated one being an AM/FM radio that's built right in the lantern. They also include emergency beacons most of the time. Some of the models have additional things like a charging port for your cell phone or MP3 players. All of the models are charged by using the wind up handle, but some have extras like battery power included, which makes them extra versatile to use.

It's smart to keep a couple nearby since a wind up source of light is not very expensive. It's recommended to keep one or two in your house in the event of a power outage. They're excellent to bring on outdoor expeditions like hiking or camping trips as well. You can keep them charged in case of an emergency, and running out of power won't be a concern if they come with battery back up. Your wind up lantern will be in running condition after you use the hand crank.

Nobody likes to think their worse case scenario will happen. But things do happen, and it's to your advantage to be ready for any possibilities. The nice thing about a wind up lantern is it's available at all times, no matter why you need the light.

Whether you are experiencing a simple loss of power, are going to be enjoying the great outdoors, or find yourself in the middle of an actual emergency, knowing that you have what you need to get light and information can greatly reduce the stress you might experience.
