Propane stove is a type of stove powered by liquefied petroleum. For safety purposes, an identifying odor have been added to make it detectable in case there is leaking. Supporting facts about the use of propane for household cooking are the following:

Propane comes from both natural gas and crude oil, which is manufactured under safety standards. It is made of vapor that readily vaporizes and dissipates into the air whenever there is leak.

Propane is environmentally friendly

As listed in the 1990 Clean Air Act and the National Energy Policy Act of 1992, propane has been named as an alternative clean fuel. It has a very minimal carbon dioxide emission compared to coal; therefore, it is environmentally friendly. Since propane is non-toxic, no harmful effects on the soil and water have been noted.

Use in a well-ventilated space

Using propane gas in an enclosed space can create toxic fumes that may be hazardous to your health. If you are left with no choice but to use it, bring it outside the house for safety reasons.

Keep away from combustible materials

When used for household cooking, always keep in an open area where there are no light materials near the stove in case it accidentally vents.

Store propane stove properly

Propane tanks should be disconnected from the stove when not in use and should be kept away from children. Store in a place where temperature does not exceed 120 F since this has a tendency to explode in extremely hot environment.  

There is no question about the safety of propane gas when used for household cooking. However, one should never be complacent when it comes to safety. Precautionary measures should always be observed and contingency plans should always be ready.
