RV Vacation for the Family

Summer's getting closer by the minute, which is why RV owners across America are airing out their RVs for some exciting road trip adventures. Recreation vehicles (RVs) are increasing in popularity in the current economic conditions. Travelers concerned about the safety of air and cruise travel, eager to remain within the borders of the USA are turning to these elaborate lodging machines that carry the comforts of home onto the highways.

RVs are fully equipped with living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens and baths. For added comfort, RVs also have rooms that slide out at the push of a button to create extra living space. You can do the math, RV travel is affordable. A family of four traveling by RV can spend up to 70 percent less than traveling by car, plane or cruise ship. Campground fees are well below average hotel/motel room rates.

Restaurant dining costs for a family of 5 for breakfast, lunch, and dinner runs conservatively $250/day. You can cut that expense by 60% by utilizing the kitchen in the RV. Not to mention the comfort of not having to dress for dinner (or wait around for everyone else to dress). Plus, you save time by not having to search for kid-friendly restaurants at each destination.

Make a list of the places your family has decided to visit. Then enter these destinations into a web site that offers free trip planners. Follow the prompts, and print out the results. The printout will give you valuable information such as mileage between locations, travel time required, cost of the trip, and road conditions you can expect to encounter.

To find a list of overnight parks, search for RV parks and campgrounds on the internet. Take note of facilities such as laundry, store for RV camping supplies, number of spaces, picnic areas, etc. Then call for reservations or better yet just book them online. It is best to guarantee your space with a credit card since you cannot be certain of what time you will arrive. There are just too many variables that can arise during the day's trip to assure an exact arrival time.

Plan and Create Your Road Map

Try to avoid interstates and highways that are particularly known for high-speed traffic. Also, it is very helpful, if you can plan your tour to avoid driving through busy cities during rush hours. Try to avoid the more commonly used routes and find alternative routes that has relatively less traffic and often offer better natural view.

Campground Reservations: Always try to make your campground reservations in advance. Use the campground directories to locate and plan the campgrounds that you would use for your overnight stays. If you are going to stay at a campground where you have never stayed before, it is also wise to do your reservation for just one night to ensure that the campground meets your requirements than to do a longer reservation for cost cutting.

Traveling with Kids

RV camping with kids can be fun for you and a great experience for them and it's good for kids to get out of the city once in a while. Get them out and away from the television and video games. Let them see a jackrabbit or a snake or any number of wondrous things. Your local dollar store usually has games like a magnetic checker/chess set or other travel games that are great for RV travel. Family camping can be a great experience for all, and especially for RV campers. When the trip is over there will be memories to share that will last a lifetime.
