Breast feeding reduces breast cancer

A new British Government report for 2011 into why breast cancer rates have doubled in the last 10 years have suggested it's been put down to 'lifestyle choice' but mainly pointing the finger at alcohol, diet and genetics. It seems even our own Government are not aware or are ignoring some other vital facts.

Did you know, massively reduced breast feeding rates are also accountable for the increase in Breast cancers? Women who had their babies in the 60's & 70's were actively encouraged not to breastfeed.
Lactation suppressing injections were being given as standard after delivery in some hospitals, "National Milk" etc.
And women who were NOT breast fed are also at increased risk of developing breast-cancer.

So, the two current high risk groups are; women who had babies in the 50's, 60's & 70's, & their daughters. Plus every generation which passes that doesn't breast feed.

Why is this not common knowledge?
Because of massive advertising revenue from milk formula manufacturers. Not making mums who can't/don't breastfeed feel bad or guilty. Societal norms. Lack of education. Lots of reasons which many big organisations, even cancer charities would prefer to keep hidden.

Recommended reading - "The Politics of Breastfeeding" In her powerful book Gabrielle Palmer describes how big business uses subtle techniques to pressure parents to use alternatives to breastmilk. The infant feeding product companies' thirst for profit systematically undermines mothers' confidence in their ability to breastfeed their babies.

Cancer Research UK are aware if all of this, but one of their sponsors is Nestle, who are a huge infant formula manufacturer.
