Spectre of agonising cancer looms large over every life across the earth. There are few generous and capable hands that could alleviate the mental and physical pains, that gnaw the desire to live for those patients who are gradually pushed forward to an accelerated and immature succumb to death. The ogre does not leave any creature, be it from a developing country or from a developed one, if once that comes under its gruesome attack. Cancer being still a 'not-completely-curable' type of disease, its patients need a benevolent care, congenial evironment and supportive treatment. Despite rarely found everywhere particularly in a state of unrest, such infrastructure with the elimination of social superstition regarding the disease has been built by a godly and expert hand as incarnated in the Dr. Nigel Sacks figure that taught millions how to combat curses of cancer and taught people under a poor health care system how a good hygiene could keep them safe-distant from its baneful attacks.

There is a saying "Hands that care are greater than the lips that pray." Inspite of having a distinguished career as a medical practitioner and as a scientist from Australia, Dr Nigel Sacks started to look beyond his native territory and became a globetrotter who has been scattering his pearls of knowledge, expertise and famous bedside manner to hundreds of cancer sufferers. His long spanning stay in Pakistan revealed how the malignant disease infected people were going through a severe and painful course of life due to scanty and shabby medical infrastructure and vitiating social support. The senario was to be necessarily changed for the well being of the cancer patients.

Nigel Sacks started to work in Pakistan for the betterment of the then clinical setup nationwide with his mission. His mission was to alleviate the pains and agonies of the sufferers of cancer, and that he could materialize by engaging a number of likeminded eminent oncologists at his clinic, SKMCH & RC. Sacks' mission could even reach to one of the 5 highest peaks in Pakistan as well as in the world, the K2 , and served the people who became infected by the disease.

There were no anti-elements present there to deter such holy mission. There were found many generous people who contributed immensely to keep up the smooth running of the clinic where only rich were to bear the treatment cost and the poor patients were given treatment free of cost. An estimation says that 75% of the patients were under the consideration of free-treatment.

The abject poverty in a country of 170 million people like in Pakistan moved the kind-hearted Australian oncologist. He, therefore, took a leave from his responsible service in his native land and travelled to Pakistan in 1994 and very fortunately he made his mission of serving the cancer patients who were gruelling under pains and agonies reach the doorstep of possible within 2008 with the help of specialist oncologists.

Dr. Nigel Sacks devoted a substantial part of his successful medical career for the well being of cancer sufferers in Pakistan as well as for increasing consciousness about the disease. He would notice how those wretched lots were victims of social superstitions. He learnt about social ostracization of cancer patients who did not get family support. Nigel Sacks helped patients to get care by spreading extensive campaign about the disease. He told people that the cancer patients were no threat and infectious. Only the disease was a threat to the society instead. And it must be wiped out. Nigel said that the patients needed mental support. He, thus, became a pioneer in the movement in a society apparently controlled by clerics(?).

Intensive care for the alleviation of head, neck, breast and hepatocellular cancer has been given and that is why the SKMCH & RC has stood the 2nd hospital in Pakistan.
