Lung Cancer: causes, Symptoms and cure

Lung cancer is a serious disease in which the cells of the lung tissues grows uncontrollably and form tumors. However, due to this leading cause, the several cancer deaths can occur in both men and women and most commonly in the age betweens 40 - 70. There are two main types of lung cancer: Small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer. However, they both are diagnosed on the basis of how the cells look under a microscope.

Lung Cancer Symptoms:

• Shortness of breath usually results from collection of fluid around the lung (pleural effusion), a blockage to the flow of air in part of the lung, or the spread of tumor throughout the lungs.

• Inexplicable fatigue or tiredness.

• Recurring bouts of bronchitis, pneumonia and other such infections

• Change in voice quality / hoarseness or croakiness that persists

• Fever that occurs for no apparent cause.

Treatment for lung cancer

Surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy are all used in the treatment of lung cancer. However, they can also each be used alone or together. Your doctor will plan the best treatment for you according to your body needs and requirements. Well, NHS guidelines state that everyone diagnosed with lung cancer should be under the care of a multi-disciplinary team (This is a team of health professionals who work together to decide on how best to manage your care and treatment. There are a number of factors that will help your specialist to plan your treatment.

• Type of lung cancer you have

• Where the cancer is within your lung

• Your general health

• Whether the cancer has spread or in which stage.

• Results of blood tests and scans

However, the treatment of Small cell lung cancer (which is mostly treated with chemotherapy). Moreover, in this treatment surgery is not usually suitable because this type of cancer has usually spread at the time of diagnosis. You may also have radiotherapy in this where as in the treatment of Non small cell lung cancer; the surgery is required and is chemotherapy, radiotherapy or a combination of these, depending on the stage and Lung Cancer Symptoms at the time of diagnosed.
